It might surprise you to hear that there's such thing as a city centre farm and it's right on your doorstep.
Rice Lane City Farm might just be Liverpool’s best-kept secret, a countryside oasis in the midst of Walton.
With 24 acres in total, there’s a long list of reasons to pay a visit, from the rare breed animals along with goats, pony, ducks, geese, rabbit and chicks to the recently refurbished chapel and tranquil cemetery.
History buffs should be sure to look out for the graves of some prominent figures, including Edgar Allan Poe illustrator James Carling and Robert Tressell, author of The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists.
The farmyard is made up of a stable block, pig pen plus for younger kids there is a petting area, and older children may be interested in some of the farm’s youth group work.
