If you're looking for a place which is bit quieter then down the road from Sefton Park you'll find a hidden gem - Greenbank Park.
This beautiful, tranquil park has mature trees and conservation area plus a placid lake for fishing in (with a permit).
At the northern end of the park is a stone bridge and football pitches and don't miss the stunning Walled Garden.
The playground, which has swings, a roundabout, slide, climbing frames and see-saw, can get crowded after school but head over to the other side of the lake and you can find a more secluded spot for a picnic.
See how many birds you can spot while you munch on your sandwiches - there are swans and ducks on the water and sometimes even a heron or two.
On most days there's also an ice cream van parked up - so you can finish your picnic with ready-made dessert.
