If the summer holidays are draining your bank account then you might be looking for things to do with the kids that are not cost you a fortune.

Luckily, there are loads of free events and activities happening at Liverpool's museums and art galleries.

Here's a round up of some of the best events happening at the Museum of Liverpool, the World Museum, the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the International Slavery Museum, the Walker Art Gallery, the Lady Lever Art Gallery and Sudley House.

What's on at the Museum of Liverpool?

Ford Anglia crafts
August 10, 22 and 24 - 11am and 1pm, August 12 and 20 - 1pm
Be inspired by the Museum's famous Ford Anglia and make your own mini version of this iconic 1960s car to take home.

Tour: Edmund Gardner pilot ship
August 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 - 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm
Step aboard for a family-friendly tour of the Edmund Gardner pilot ship. Discover the important work of the former pilot cutter and its fascinating role in Liverpool’s maritime history. The award-winning team will guide you around the largest object in National Museums Liverpool’s collections.
There is no wheelchair access, and the tour involves some steep stairs and raised entry levels. Sensible shoes should be worn. Not suitable for children under 5.

Badge making
August 28 - 1pm, August 30 - 11am and 1pm
Get creative and make a badge inspired by the Museum of Liverpool's exhibitions and collections to wear with pride on your way home in a free workshop for all ages.

60s Games
August 7, 8, 9 - 11am and 1pm, August 11 - 11am
Your kids can have a go at playing with some vintage games and toys including Spirograph, Etch A Sketch and Spin Quiz - and even take the Etch A Sketch challenge.

Hands on with the Victorians
August 13, 14, 16, 17 and 19 - 11am
Join a member of the Education team to get hands-on with the past and discover what Liverpool was like during the Victorian period, a time when Liverpool and Britain changed dramatically.
In this fun interactive session you will get the chance to handle objects from the 19th century and immerse yourself into Victorian court life through the sights, sounds and smells of Liverpool in 1870.

What's on at World Museum?

Planetarium shows
Every day in the school holidays - 10.30am – 4.30pm
World Museum’s Planetarium features three fantastic shows - Earth, Moon and Sun, Fly me to the Moon, From Earth to Universe.
The last show of the day at 4.30pm is FREE for visitors to watch.
If you want to watch earlier tickets are available from the info desk priced £2.50 for adults, £1.50 for children (3 to 18 years) and children under three go FREE. A family ticket is available for £7 and National Museums Liverpool members go half price.

Chinese lanterns
August 11 and 12 August - 1pm to 4pm
Come and discover the history and skill of making Chinese lanterns. Make your own to take away with you.

Chinese community day
August 12 - 12pm to 3pm
Discover more about Chinese culture and traditions in this festival with local community groups and explore the history of Liverpool’s China town.

Polar the Titanic bear
August 11, 16 and 24 August - 1pm, 2pm and 3pm
Come and listen to the adventures of Polar the Titanic bear - based on a story originally written by Titanic survivor Daisy Corning Stone Spedden for her son, Douglas.

New Liverbird and the adventurers
August 7, 18 and 22 August - 1.30, 2.30 and 3.30pm
Join the storyteller to hear the tale of the Liverpool-built yacht, New Liverbird, and her crew of young adventurers. What did they find on their journeys and what will happen when they return home?

VR Here-Titanic experience
August 17, 1pm to 3pm
Join VR Here for a virtual reality tour of the Titanic. Numbers are limited, free tickets will be given out on the day.

Sniffer dog demo
August 9, 16 and 30 - 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm
Come and meet a Border Force officer and their sniffer dog, and watch a demonstration of how this team search for hidden contraband.

Short stories at Seized
August 12 - 1pm, 2pm and 3pm
Everyone loves a tale of adventure, of places near and far. Join in with the storyteller and help them bring these stories to life. Suitable for 4 years + and their families.

What's on at International Slavery Museum?

Brilliant banners
August 18 and 19 - 1pm to 3pm
Create a colourful banner to be part of the Slavery Remembrance Day Walk of Remembrance. This workshop will include an introduction to Slavery Remembrance Day and the International Slavery Museum, followed by a hands-on batik workshop.
You will be able to create a brilliant banner or flag.

Unity carnival
August 22 - 1pm to 4pm
Fun for all the family with performances, creative activities and more. This event is part of the Slavery Remembrance Day programme.

Slavery Remembrance Day
August 23, 10am to 5pm
Come along for this year’s Slavery Remembrance Day commemoration - a day of remembrance and reflection, that includes a Walk of Remembrance, Libation and the Dorothy Kuya Memorial Lecture.

What's on at the Walker Art Gallery?

Once upon a time…
Every Sunday (except 26 August) 2pm
In a magical place called Big Art, tales of wondrous lands, enchanted kingdoms and mythical characters were told. Come along for fairy tales, traditional stories and family favourites.

Animal art trail
Every day during August - 11am to 4pm
The animals in the art works are getting ready for a party. Grab a trail from the information desk and see how many you can find.

Badge club

Create your very own badge inspired by the Gallery’s collections. Come back every week to add to your collection.

Arthur Bee
August 14 - 1pm to 4pm
Find out Arthur’s secret he’s too embarrassed to talk about. It’s a secret that bees aren’t expected to have, and the whole beehive is affected. How will Queen Bee react when she finds out Arthur’s secret? Then buzz along and create a buzz-tastic insect mask to take home.

What's on at the Lady Lever Art Gallery?

See, make, do

Moo music

Join Lindsey from Moo Music for this interactive music session for 6 months - 5 year olds where they can sing, dance, play and learn. Collect a ticket on the day.

August 25 - 11am and 2pm
Is your child aged between 7 and 12 and loves art and being creative? If so, why not join family art club? On the last Saturday of every month a member of the Education team will help you explore the Gallery and get hands-on in this interactive workshop. Each month you and your child will be able to try new techniques, experiment with different materials and learn new skills.
